Have you heard any of these jokes:

A lady inserted an ad in the classifieds: ‘Husband Wanted’. Next day she received a hundred letters.

They all said the same thing: ‘You can have mine.’

If you want your spouse to listen and pay strict attention to every word you

say — talk in your sleep.

First guy says, ‘My wife’s an angel!’ Second guy remarks, ‘You’re lucky, mine’s still alive.’

And then the young son asked his father, ‘Is it true that in some parts of Africa a man doesn’t know his wife until he marries her?’ Dad replied, ‘That happens in every country, son.’

Why is the beginning of the relationship so exciting, romantic, hot and after a few years of marriage the happy couple is contemplating divorce?

The problem with relationships is that men and women have different needs – everyone knows that but when you understand what a women wants and what a man wants and then work on the relationship with an understanding of each others needs you can develop the relationship into an exciting, loving, caring satisfying marriage.

How can this be accomplished?

Women want attention, appreciation, and communication.

Men want sex. The sex drive in a man is incredibly strong. Think about the beginning of most relationships. The man is attentive, appreciative and talks. The women gets what she wants because the man is interested in getting her into bed.

So a great way for couples to bring excitement back into the relationship is to have the women focus on channeling her husbands sex drive. Once this is accomplished she will get what she wants. When a man’s sex drive is channeled he will again become attentive, romantic, appreciative and he will communicate.

This can be done with a little imagination. It wont require the wife to hang from the ceiling fan dressed in garter belts with a paddle in her hand. When a wife learns to use her feminine qualities she can bring her husband to attention in a very short period of time.

Sound like work? Sound a little weird? Every relationship requires work. If you want a relationship that you’ve only dreamed about learn how to use your sexuality and you’ll find your husband begging to do things for you.

John Gottman of the Gottman Institute has studied relationships for decades. He has watched very closely for the tell-tale signs of what goes right and what goes wrong.

One of the most telling and important ingredients of a relationship is also the smallest: the ‘bid.’ A bid is when one of the partners reaches out for contact. It is usually verbal, but could be a look or a touch. The goal of a bid is simply to get the partner’s attention.

In a successful relationship the bids are answered by giving your partner a positive response.
Now that’s pretty simple. Your partner asks for attention, and you give it. You ask for attention and your partner responds. Now that’s not rocket science is it? When you really think about it, that is what all human interactions begin with.

A bid could be “honey, what is for dinner?” or “Look at that car” or “isn’t that puppy sweet” or “I’m tired.” It could also be reaching over and stroking your partners arm, or starting to give a back rub.

The response to the bid is even more important than the bid itself. Since the bid is an attempt to gain the attention of the partner, the proper response is simply to give your partner a positive, attentive reaction. Ignoring your partner is the same as rejecting the bid. You could say “drop dead, I hate puppies.” Or you could just continue to read the morning paper and sip your coffee. Both are going to nip any interaction in the bud.

Good relationships have bids that are answered. Poor relationships had a large number of bids that are rejected or ignored.

Is it just so easy? Well, actually this is a very good measure if your relationship is stagnating or in trouble! Think about yesterday and what happened when you got up with your partner. Did you initiate the conversations? Did your partner respond? And ask the same about your partner’s bids. How did you respond?

When you bid and your partner ignores you or responds badly, how do you react? Normally, we just keep trying only a little bit and then drop it. It is quite rare to keep bidding like a kid: “Hey, mom. mom… mom. Hey mom, mom, mom, mom….” It just won’t happen! We drop that behavior pretty early in life since it just doesn’t work. So don’t expect that your partner will ask twice for attention — unless you are married to a 4 year old. (if you are, you got more problems that we can help you with!!)

What happens when bidding fails? The answer is that the positive energy in your relationship dies. You may know the feeling. People ask all the time: “Where did the romance go,” “Where did the love go.” The reason you know the romance has gone, is because the bids and bid responses have dropped to nearly zero.

So what can you do about it? For starters, initiate bids more. Especially on those subjects that will get a positive response from your partner. And when your partner bids for your attention, make sure that you respond positively and immediately.

It will take a large commitment on your part to think of those areas that your partner will respond to. Don’t just start random bidding about things that will not engage your partner’s interest. And if your partner is only focussed on things that are totally boring or even distasteful to you. The best advice I can give you is “get over it.” Heck, I would even watch a chick-flick or two if that’s what it takes. Or if it is only sex that your partner gets interested in, well, at least it is a starting point.

Where you take it is your choice. Let the bidding start!

It is difficult to maintain faith in our spiritual power when we find ourselves co-mingled in someone else’s world, reality, or game. It is a nearly impossible to stay true to ourselves when the illusion of a ‘need’ for a relationship in our lives, or a ‘need’ for a person, overshadows the NEED for what is best for ourselves.

The kind of passion generated between lovers can be so intense that it becomes intoxicating. Emotional love is a dangerous drug to play with. There ARE consequences when we do not follow the ‘rules’ of a healthy relationship. Emotional love creates illusions of grandeur and conjures up lofty fantasies of easily flowing future bliss with our object of desire. We allow our significant others or potential significant others to fail us when the wishful thinking generated by our fantasies comes head to head with the very different opposing realities and wake up calls of our relationship.</p.

Anything that intoxicates us can harm us. When we are under the influence of our chosen object of desire, our better judgment can become scrambled and blurred by the sensations of our feelings for that person, or our ideas of what that person represents to us. An addiction to another person is similar to an addiction to alcohol, drugs, sex, shopping, food, or anything that we latch on to for escape from the struggles of everyday life. A deceptive hope of liberation through that person, drug, etc. inspires us, and seductively guides us into further self-destruction. The hope does not ever pan out to be more than a pipe dream, or a mirage, because no object of addiction can truly fulfill us, solve our problems or set us free. An object of addiction leaves us with the feeling of never having, 'enough.'

Anytime a person is addicted to someone or something, they are in bondage. The addict always has an excuse for his or her behavior. Addition does not take responsibility for its existence. Therefore, in denial, we remain enslaved in its clutches, unable to take the first step in recovery, which is admitting to ourselves that we have a problem within ourselves, that we ourselves have been creating.

Addiction will only pull a person deeper into its cunning trap as we feed it. Addiction is a downward spiral that leads into darker and more depressing places. In the later stages of development, it propels the desire in its host to isolate from anything and anyone else that does not support the addiction.

I have never crossed paths with anyone who has not struggled with some form of addiction in their life. Those traveling on a spiritual journey will see the many temptations life presents day in and day out. Each of these moments we are given the opportunity to react addictively to any of the triggers around us. We can give into the mechanism, or we can break the cycle for that individual instance.

Once we understand the problem, we allow ourselves to open up more toward the solution. Please visit my website at http://mystikka.com for information on the next step.

The Cube is an entertaining and inspirational visualization
that has been handed down for generations. It is designed to gain personal insights free from external judgement. You can do this by yourself or can share it with a friend!

Imagine you see a bare stretch of sandy beach. Just sand and sky.

Imagine a single cube in the picture. What is it made of? Where is it? In the distance? How does it look? Is it solid?

Next, imagine a ladder. Is it big? Small? Near the cube? On top? Solid? Let your imagination be the boss.

Imagine some kind of transportation? Is it a car? Horse? Boat? What color? Where is it? What relation does it have to the cube and the ladder?

And now, imagine some growing plants. Are they flowers? Trees? Where are they? Are there a few or many?

Finally, imagine a storm! What kind? What does it do to the rest of the scene? Is it in the distance, or right up close?

Hold that image before you look at the next page! You will be surprised!

Many people, but not everyone, create these images with the following associations:

The cube represents your self.

The ladder represents your friends.

The transportation is the significant relationship in your life.

The plants are your creations, children, career or artistic.

The storm represents the challenges in your life!

Don’t be surprised if some of these images don’t seem to make sense! Your imagination is not logical nor is it a source of discomfort and it is sometimes confusing to the logical conscious mind, so avoid judgement, just perceive.

While “the cube” is purely for entertainment purposes, it can point the way to your deeper values. Your values are important, and are often swanped by your built-in emotional reactions that have been put there by your family, your partner, your job, or …

You can get closer to your values by clearing those emotional reactions that are no longer serving you. You can find out more at The Celarien Experience.

When they met, everyone said Don and Tara were destined to be together. They took time to sit down and enjoy one another every day. As they approached retirement, they made plans to grow old together at the beach where they bought a condo next door to friends who planned to be part of the journey. Theirs was the marriage to be envied and served as a role model for how to do relationships.

Don and his adult son Chad were trimming branches from the trees on their property one Sunday afternoon. They were talking and enjoying the beautiful day when suddenly Don fell from the ladder onto the chain saw on the ground below. Chad tried doing CPR but it was useless. When the paramedics arrived Don was dead and Tara had lost the man she had loved for 27 years.

Their destination of romance may be finished, but Tara has pleasant memories of each step they took together along the way. These memories gave Tara courage after Don’s death. They had spoken many times of what would happen if the other one should pass first. Tara knew that Don did not want a funeral service with people telling Tara how sorry they were. Instead, she threw a party to celebrate the life of her beloved mate and only invited the family and friends who knew Don best.

What regular activities are you doing with your partner to nurture your relationship? Are you enjoying the journey on the way to where you are going? Are you fulfilled enough that you could carry on without the one you love?

Through laughter and tears, romance paves the way to whatever lies ahead. Romance is the road as well as the journey to what ever gives you that positive, joyful energy.

There is nothing more frustrating than a relationship that is always in turmoil and in need of a referee. Friends and family can be supportive but they tend to take sides or else they don’t have the qualifications to help as a counselor.

If one partner is constantly using the other partner to “fix” things that are out of balance in the relationship, it won’t be long before the damage done by blaming, nagging and childish behavior will ruin the marriage. Many times our issues are about how we view ourselves, our partners and romance. Learn about your own identity by taking the quiz at www.celarien.com/reconnect.htm.

Once a person has a good sense of self and is able to meet most of their own needs, they are ready to make a positive contribution to a relationship rather than being a drain hole through which all the energy seeps out. However, getting to that point is sometimes difficult or slow, and even when you think you’ve resolved your issues, you may find emotional healing an ongoing process. Those who are emotionally and mentally healthy still need refresher courses at times.

When I am discontent about something in my relationship, many times it is my own “stuff” at the core of the problem. Since the problem doesn’t have anything to do with my mate, I talk to a life coach who can help me see what I need to do to change and bring more joy into my own life and thus my marriage. Then, once I’ve moved through that phase and resolved that issue, I share my experience with my spouse.

Life coaches are great resources for letting off steam that could harm a relationship. If your life is a mess, try talking to a trusted life coach instead of blaming your partner for something that has nothing to do with him/her or your marriage. You may find your mate supportive and proud of you for resolving the matter in a mature way that helps both keep the romance alive.

Sometimes, you simply need to hear what the other person has to say without jumping to conclusions before you hear the entire matter. Maybe a change of scenery is needed–a place to get a way from distractions and talk deeply with your partner to reconnect and keep your relationship alive. Don’t do like I did an ignore problems hoping they will go away. Get the help you need and make the most out of your relationship.
